Hey all my blog friends! I am going to try to get Coop on formula in the next few weeks and i was wondering about different brands. Is there a huge difference for baby between the off brand and the name brand?? I can get the meijer brand formula for $11 and the same size name brand costs $22ish, if not more...... thats half ...... im sure he will drink it and be fine but im also feeling guilty because i nursed wil till he was about 10 months, he was barely on formula, then to stop earlier with this kid and give him generic formula for 6 months is he going to be at a disadvantage? lol silly thing to worry about i know just humor me and tell me whatcha think?? :)

We gave Ellia Wal-Mart brand from the beginning. I like to think she is one smart cookie, even though she is a bit sassy. I think the only reason to by the more expensive stuff would be if he doesn't tolerate the cheaper brands.

We used Wal-Mart brand with Lilly and name brand formula with Nicholas. The only difference was the money we spent (WAY more).

I understand feeling guilty about not nursing as long as you feel you're supposed to. I think it basically comes down to how you're feeling about it. The first time around you only had one kid. You didn't have another one running around that you had to try to keep out of stuff and happy while you're trying to nurse the other one (I know how it feels to chase down one kid while nursing or trying to get a snack out of the cupboard. Definitely not a pretty picture!).

If you can handle that and keep your stress levels low then keep nursing, but if you're feeling overwhelmed, don't feel guilty about not nursing as long as you did the first time. You can't be the mom both of your boys need if you are stressed out all the time.

I nursed both my kids until they were one. It was mildly annoying at times to be on call like that 24/7. I made myself do it because we didn't have the money for formula. Plus I really liked eating what I wanted since it was all going into my milk and not to my hips.

I also nursed Maya until she was 10 months then we had her on the Sam's Club brand formula for 2 months until I put her on whole milk. She was totally fine.

Don't feel guilty! Coop will be fine :)

I nursed Sariah until 13 mo. stopped because I was expecting Randa and wanted to give all the "energy" to the new baby. Nursed Miranda for 5 mo. and HAD to stop because of thyroid problems. (they are 2 yrs apart) Nursed Tallen for 12 mo. stopped when he wouldn't stop biting me. I used the generic formula and all my kids are brilliant. :o) Save yourself the big bucks to use for more important things - get the generic. They're the same except for the name on the can. I LOVED the HUGE cans of 2nd year formula (I have light weight kiddos and they needed the extra fat) that I found at Meijer.
Good luck ;o) Remember that YOU are the Mom! You need not 2nd guess yourself. It doesn't matter what other people say (no matter how "well meaning" they are) Do the best you can by the standards set by Heavenly Father and by you & Nick...and you're Golden!

I use Similac Advance with early shield only b/c thats what they gave Brady and Tripp in the hospital when there blood sugar was too low. Plus at every doctor appt, they always ask what brand I'm using, and told me to only use Enimamil or Similac. I tried the Good Start b/c I had a coupon but it made Tripp cry all night long with tummy bubbles. As long as the cheaper brand isn't making him spit up more than usual or give him tummy aches, it would probably be ok, as long as it has iron in it. Don't feel guilty. I wasn't able to breast feed for medical reasons, and I felt horrible about it. Be glad he got breast milk at all:) Whatever brand you choose, make sure not to switch it up after or he might not tolerate it very well.
